Lawyer Michael Avenatti who rose to fame for representing porn star Stormy Daniels announced that he would run for President in 2020 if Trump ran again.
“IF (big) he seeks re-election, I will run, but only if I think that there is no other candidate in the race that has a REAL chance at beating him. We can’t relive 2016. I love this country, our values and our people too much to sit by while they are destroyed,” tweeted Avenatti on the 4th of July.
While a minority of liberals thought this was a good idea, the rest mocked him. But he quickly turned all liberals against him when he insulted Hillary Clinton. “See poll below. The better question is: Will the Dems nominate another tired, highly experienced, establishment candidate to run against Trump and expect that it will end in a different result than the first 15 such politicians he beat,” tweeted Avenatti.
The feedback was fierce. “Hillary Clinton traveled this world 1M miles as Secretary of State. Hillary Clinton traveled the world to 112 countries. Hillary Clinton is the most qualified and experienced person ever to run for President. Shes the establishment who get things done. What you tweeted was SEXIST,” wrote one user.
“Respectfully, @MichaelAvenatti, the way to gain a foothold as a serious political contender is not to disparage the voting choices of millions of Democrats, including an overwhelming majority of women of color, the party’s backbone,” tweeted Peter Daou. Avenatti ended up apologizing. “And to be clear, I’m not calling Hillary tired. I am referring to many of the others that ran against Trump and the messaging that went with a number of the candidates,” he tweeted.
