Many liberals and “Never Trump” Republicans have been trying to take offhand comments President Donald Trump made in an off-the-record private meeting and use them as supposed proof that Trump is a racist.

Fortunately, the late Rev. Martin Luther KIng, Jr’s niece Alveda King came to the president’s defense and said how ridiculous it is that people are now trying to paint him as a bigot. Said Alveda on Fox News, “Racism is just a word that is being bandied about and thrown… at the president unjustly. President Trump is not a racist.”

Alveda also added context to Trump’s “shitholes” comments by stating the obvious that the president was not mocking Africans or Haitians but was shedding light on the fact that Haiti and most African countries are run by corrupt, exploitative governments who actively degrade their citizens’ quality of life. Stated King, “Some of their own leaders have taken advantage of them.”

King also brought attention to the fact that just this past week President Trump did something that Democrat Barack Obama did, namely sign a bill making the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Georgia a national historical park.

Alveda commented that the bill signing was clearly “not a racist act, and somebody says, ‘Well, he had to sign it.’ Well, he didn’t. Presidents veto bills all the time. President Trump was happy to sign that bill.” She added, “I believe that President Donald John Trump is working very hard to make America great again. And he continues to demonstrate that he wants to do that for all Americans, so the question of racism just doesn’t fit that profile to me.” Are you glad Alveda stood up for Donald?
