Megyn Kelly must have been thrilled to be able to interview Putin. She probably thought it would be the career move of a life time. But then the ratings came in, and they were bad. It turns out people aren’t very interested in her even if she is with Putin.
She drew in about 6.1 million viewers. She lost to a rerun of 60 Minutes which drew in 6.6 million and lost to NBA Finals matchup which drew in 15.5 million viewers. Megyn Kelly had once said in an interview that it was not her intention to compete with 60 Minutes.
“They’ve been doing it for 50 years, and it’s a hugely rated show not just in news but in all of television. Our goal is not to beat 60 Minutes. It’s to do great journalism in a way that’s compelling and dynamic. Our show looks and feels a little different from what’s been seen before. You’ll see some pieces that are a little more cutting edge and more irreverent,” said Kelly.
Kelly got pounded in her interview with Putin. He laughed at her questions and suggested that the mainstream media has lost all their sense.
“Well, this is just another load of nonsense. Where would we get this information from? Why, did we have some special relationship with him? We didn’t have any relationship at all. There was a time when he used to come to Moscow. But you know, I never met with him,” answered Putin in response to Kelly’s Russia conspiracy question. “Do you think we’re gathering compromising information on all of them right now or something? Are you all, have you all lost your senses over there?” said Putin.
