NBC’s Fred Gaudelli who will be executive producer of the Super Bowl, was asked what NBC will do if players kneel during the National Anthem.
“It’s certainly possible. It was a pretty big story in our country this fall. We’d show it. When you’re covering a live event, you’re covering what’s happening. If there are players who chose to kneel, they will be shown live,” said Gaudelli.
He also addressed the lack of NFL attendance this year. Gaudelli blamed the weather rather than the anthem protests and also that the lack of attendance has been blown out of proportion. “New York had a game in week 17 where it was 4 degrees outside. Why would you go and sit in that when the Giants are 2 and 13?” said Gaudelli.
President Trump made headlines during his rally against NFL kneelers last year. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b*tch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired! He’s fired!'” said Trump, to huge applause back in September. .
“You know, some owner is going to do that. He’s going to say, ‘That guy that disrespects our flag, he’s fired.’ And that owner, they don’t know it [but] they’ll be the most popular person in this country,” said Trump.
